Traffic citations are an often overlooked area of the law. They can range from civil infractions to misdemeanors, and in some instances, even felonies. People often just pay the fines without even questioning the future ramifications these tickets may have. However, many traffic tickets also carry the penalty of driver’s license points. If you have 6 or more one-point violations , or 12 or more points on your driving record within a two-year period, you may be required to undergo a driver assessment reexamination. Additionally, drivers who accumulate an excess of points and/or traffic tickets may run the risk of license suspension or revocation if not rectified in an appropriate time and manner. Furthermore, many violations are abstracted on an individual’s driving record, which are then reported to the driver’s insurance company and can increase their premiums.
